Ancient Rome Arrives in Alcudia

Despite the rain and muddy carparks, the fair was a success with thousands of visitors creating a great atmosphere around the town. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Fira’s first ever Roman market. In fact, all the attractions throughout the weekend, including local handicraft, Balearic produce, trade fair shows, music performances, workshops and activities were dedicated to the Roman theme.

Estimates are that 40,000 visitors arrived in the Old Town over the weekend, despite the rain on Sunday morning. Also, many official representatives from across the island joined the Mayor of Alcudia, Antoni Mir, and the Councillor for fairs and markets, Catalina Juan Pericàs, including members of the Balearic Government and mayors from other towns.

The I Roman Market on the Camí de Roda had more than 70 stands and a further 160 outlets attended the general fair and joined in with the Roman theme.
