Excitement Mounting

Real Mallorca´s return to the promised land of La Liga is now less than 2 weeks away. The first game at home against Eibar was slated to be played on Monday the 19th August but this has been changed to Saturday the 17th with an 8 pm kick off.  There has been a long running dispute between La Liga and the referees association concerning Monday night games and the referees have now refused to provide officials for these fixtures. 

The Islanders play their final pre season game this coming Saturday the 10th of August at 9pm against top flight opposition in the form of Levante. This is the annual City of Palma Trophy fixture and is an opportunity for the loyal fans to see the new acquisitions in action. 


There has been a huge amount of transfer activity in the last few weeks but perhaps the most significantnews is that head coach Vicente Moreno has extended his contract until 2022. Veteran midfielder and last season´s player of the year Salva Sevilla , aka the Silver Fox, has also extended his deal until 2021.


Signifacntly Idrisu Baba the young midfielder who was the star of the playoff final  second leg  against Deportivo la Coruna has also extended his deal until 2022. His buyout clause has been increased from 5 to 45 million euros amidst rumours of interest from bigger clubs.  Fullback Joan Sastre has also signed a new deal after protracted negotations. 

New signings are being incorporated into the squad including Alexis Febas from Real Madrid. The midfielder has joined on a permanent basis with Los Blancos receiving 50 % of any future transfer fee. Serbian centre half Aleksander Sedlar has been recruited along with fellow contryman Igor Zlatanovic a very promising striker. 

Ghanaian fullback Lumor Agbenyenu has joined on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

To make way fringe players Buenacasa, Russo and Valcarce have all left the island  amd signed for Ponferradina on loan.  Carlos Castro is now at Lugo and Stoichkow with Alcorcon.

More arrivals are anticipated and Moreno is asking for players with experience in La Liga. 

Mallorca recently played a friendly in Malaga and won 2 – 0 with goals from Budimir and Lago Junior.

Season ticket holders are renewing at a frantic pace. New applicants can apply from the 8th of August and the ticket office is expected to be inundated. Applications can be made online via the club  website www.rcdmallorca.es from that date.
