ESRA North Christmas Bazaar from Howard Mullen
After weeks of serious preparation, the ESRA North Christmas Bazaar finally happened. This year, Committee members of ESRA North were wearing their new polo shirts, which easily identified them as someone who might be able to help.
The Bazaar opened at 10am to a steady stream of visitors and by 10.30 the English speaking Residents Bazaar had a new language!
Local residents have always been generous with their support for ESRA North, and the local charities they support, so with the arrival of lots of local people, the language in use became mainly Spanish. The event became more and more international with friends coming from Germany and Sweden. There were even visitors from other branches of ESRA across the island
The Bazaar had lots of attractions including tombola, an amazing raffle, home made goods, mulled wine, a bric a brac stall and lots more.
ESRA North Chair, Chris Maynard, thanked everyone for their help and support, and The Island President of ESRA, Dorothy Loeffler thanked Chris for organising such a successful event. The proceeds will go to two charities, ASNIMO and PRODIS. The money is still coming in from the Bazaar, but the team are working together towards a €3,000 target.
Classic Car Club’s Christmas Bash
The Classic Car Club of Mallorca met last week at the Boathouse in Palma for their annual Christmas gathering. They again used the occasion to support the Allen Graham Charity for Kids, some of whom were able to attend the event and take a ride in the cars. Our very own Charles Nutter was there to present the charity and campaign for the Give a Gift programme.
While the children are always bought something from their wishlist, these extra gifts are a huge bonus for these children who have not had the Christmas joy we take for granted. The English Radio Pollensa and TOTN ‘Santa’s Saturday’ on 9th December (see the What’s On page) will be the North’s first gift-giving event. This is the third year running and judging by the first two, there should be a fair amount of presents! If you miss that then the TOTN Christmas Party on Thursday 14th is another opportunity so please pop along to one or both and get into the spirit of Christmas.
International Day Against Domestic Violence
At the end of last month, the international day against violence was marked in various towns and organizations. In Alcudia the day was marked with an institutional meeting with officials from the Consell de Mallorca and Alcudia Town Council. A series of monologues and performances followed at the Auditori d’Alcudia. In an act of solidarity a minute’s silence was followed by the lighting of local buildings in the colour purple.
In Pollensa the Lions are dedicating all charitable fundraising activities to local victims of domestic violence. In November the group held a film night and gave all proceeds to the cause. It was a huge success and there will be more events to come. To keep up with their activities, send an email to subscribe to the newsletter at email@example.com.
