Charity Walk: the Galatzo Challenge

RC Calvía International is organising a special charity event called the Galatzo Challenge.

The event has two parts – first the walk itself (there is also a special route for mountain bikes). There is a short walk for the less energetic and a longer (10km), more challenging route for those of a more active nature. 

The second part of the event is in Capdella village about a kilometre away, where there is a free BBQ with entertainment for all taking part.

Alcúdiajazz: BMMA,Toni Cuenca Trio i Jorge Pardo

Jorge Pardo and Toni Cuenca present a symphonic format with the Municipal Music Band of Alcúdia and Toni Cuenca Trio, along with Jorge Pardo. They will present some outstanding compositions of jazz with flamenco roots, and classical jazz.

J. Pardo's ability to fuse flamenco with jazz has taken him to the most important venues with the most sought-after musicians of the current jazz scene. Chick Corea, Jean Luc Vallet, Camarón de la Isla or Paco de Lucía are some of the geniuses with whom this great musician has collaborated. With this concert, the BMMA celebrates the 30th anniversary of its foundation.

8pm, meet at the Plaza de Son Bordoi for the Lantern Fiesta, leaves at 8.30pm accompanied by the Xeremiers, to the Plaza de Son Puça

9pm, Sopar de Fideus for all at the Plaça de Son Puça, pay €1 for a ticket (at the council) and reserve your table at Son Piça from 4pm.

Alcúdiajazz: Pere Bujosa Quintet

Pere Bujosa is a young Mallorcan musician (Palma, 1992). While living in Barcelona, he studied Modern Music and Jazz at the Liceu Conservatory. There he was the student of some of the most credible local musicians, such as H. Fumero, D. Mengual, Marc Miralta, Gary Willis and Llibert Fortuny, and he attended master classes of artists such as Richard Bona, Chucho Valdés and Kenny Barron.

He currently resides in Amsterdam and leads the Pere Bujosa Group, with whom he has just released the Who's Holland album. His music is based on contemporary jazz with Funk, Rock, Free Jazz or Psychodelia added in. He is also inspired by alternative rock groups such as Radiohead or Nirvana.

In Alcudia: bus leaves at bus station in the Port at 2.15am, from the Old Town at 2.30am to leave for the Inca start point

Buger: Meet at the Plaza de la Constitucio at 3.30am

Campanet: Meet at the Plaza Major at 4am

Santa Margalida & Can Picafort: meet at the Plaza de la Villa at midnight for the bus to Inca

La Beata Fiesta

Santa Margalida's biggest annual fiesta

At sunrise (about 7am), this is followed with the procession of the ‘Scalded cat’, a cold water-based procession with the banner of the ‘Gat escalde’

10am, demonis, they run along the streets to wake everyone up and end at the church

11am, Solemn mass, La Beata (young woman of the town previously selected) will be in attendance with her court. The choir will sing, there will be traditional dance with xeremiers

12pm, Corregudes en es Cós, horse parade and racing, see programme locally. 

5.30pm, parade of floats, along calles joan Monjo March and passeig des Pouàs ending at the Church 

7pm, parade of municipal band

9pm, The traditional parade with floats, xeremiers and municipal band with ‘peasants’ of the town carrying urns that the demonis snatch and smash in front of La Beata. 

11pm, Revetla de la nit de la Beata with live music at the Plaza de la Vila

1am, Party with DJ at pub es Colomer

7pm, gathering at the Townhall for the Offering of the Flowers

7.30pm, the Offering of the Flowers with Xeremiers, Mallorquin Dance and the Municipal Band

8pm, Mass at the Church followed by a procession with the relic of Santa Catalina Tomàs. The Giants of the town will lead the procession. Starting at the Plaza de la Iglesia the procession will continue along carrers Escola, Baltasar Calafat i Femenia, Constitució and finish at the plaza de l’Església. Accompanied by the xeremiers. 

10.30pm, Revetla with live music and DJs, at the plaza de la Vila

Sopar a la Fresca

Pollensa, Sopar a la Fresca. The last Friday in August is the night when residents of the town bring their dining room outside to eat with neighbours. Have a walk around the residential streets to soak up the atmosphere. If you want to do it, register at the council to close the street, by the Tuesday before.

Various neighbourhood and charitable organizations will be holding their own Al Fresco Dinners.

5pm, swim gala for kids, prizes for all. At the municipal pool

7pm, Ringing of the bells to announce La Beata Fiesta. Everyone is invited to decorate the windows and balconies with the town flag and the banner of the Blessed. (buy at church)

7pm, Children’s entertainment with Cucorba, plaza de la Vila

9pm, Vetlada Mallorquina, with folk groups from across Mallorca, at the Plaza de la Vila

11pm, Correfoc, starts at the Church along calles Baltasar Calafat I Femenia, Cladera, Doctor Calafat and ending at avenguda del Pouàs

Midnight, Party with groups and DJs, at C/Miquel Ordines, in front of pub es Colomer
